Job Description
VP, Unmanned Systems Norway
Position Overview:
The Vice President (VP) will be a critical member of the company’s leadership team, responsible for leading a high-growth division in all aspects of business management. This role includes P&L responsibility for the segment, business strategy development, operational efficiencies, quality assurance, and business development & marketing. The VP will drive growth and innovation while ensuring alignment with broader corporate objectives.
A critical responsibility of this role is facilitating the full integration of this unit into the larger Teledyne FLIR Defense organization. As part of a US-based company, the VP will be responsible for reinforcing the alignment with corporate strategies, operational standards, and business priorities, ensuring leaders, employees, and business processes are fully integrated into the broader organization while maintaining operational excellence and site-specific strengths in the follow areas:
Financial & Strategic Leadership
- Own revenue, operating income, and cash growth, meeting or exceeding aggressive quarterly, annual, and long-term operating plans.
- Define and execute the segment’s strategy while contributing to the overall business unit strategy and execution.
- Establish and manage approved revenue and EBITA plans, ensuring expenses align with budgets and forecasts.
- Identify and develop solutions for new market opportunities to drive expansion.
Cross-Segment Collaboration & Business Optimization
- Work closely with all business segments, particularly the Government & Defense Business Unit, to maximize mutual opportunities and overall company profitability.
- Make strategic resource allocation decisions that optimize total FLIR performance, even at the expense of one segment when necessary.
Product Development & Innovation
- Define product roadmaps that empower internal and external businesses to pursue key markets.
- Oversee the product development process to ensure efficient, rapid market introduction.
- Identify and define strategic technologies that provide the company with a competitive advantage.
Customer Relations & Sales Oversight
- Provide oversight of the sales process and customer relationship management.
- Develop and review contracts and proposals to ensure strategic alignment with business goals.
- Maintain open lines of communication with customers, ensuring their needs are met promptly and effectively.
- Work closely with Sales and Business Development teams to provide technical product and proposal support.
- Maintain strong customer relationships throughout project lifecycles, mediating challenges that could impact company objectives.
- Collaborate with business development, product managers, engineers, and regional representatives to promote products in a cohesive and strategic manner.
Manufacturing, Operations, & Quality Assurance
- Oversee manufacturing and supply chain operations—both internal and external—to drive maximum efficiency.
- Ensure systems and processes lead to the highest quality products while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Identify and manage risks and opportunities related to cost, schedule, and performance.
Team Development & Leadership
- Regularly evaluate the health of talent within the organization with leaders to identify current strengths and future development opportunities.
- Ensure a proactive approach to workforce planning, succession management, and capability building.
- Cultivate a workplace environment of trust, communication, teamwork, and motivation.
- Promote career development, ensure effective hiring and onboarding of new employees, and implement succession planning for critical positions.
- Maintain an adaptable organizational structure to meet evolving business requirements.
- Conduct constructive performance check-ins regularly as well as annual performance reviews, ensuring employee growth and accountability.
- Regularly evaluate the health of talent within the organization with leaders to identify current strengths and future development opportunities.
Corporate Reporting & M&A Strategy
- Provide regular performance updates to the Business Unit President and executive staff.
- Identify M&A targets that offer synergies for the segment and support the integration of acquired businesses.
- Lead post-acquisition integration efforts to ensure seamless alignment within the organization.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or business management required; MBA or other master’s degree strongly preferred.
- Executive Leadership: Demonstrated strength in budget planning, strategic business oversight, and leading at an executive management level.
- Experience: Minimum of 15 years managing a $50M+ high-tech manufacturing operation or significant leadership experience within similar technology sectors.
- Leadership & Strategy: Proven ability to articulate a strategic vision, identify business trends, evaluate risks, and execute a balanced approach between strategic thinking and tactical results.
- US-Based Business Experience (Preferred): Experience working for a US-based company, with the ability to bring that perspective to the Norway business and support alignment with broader global business practices.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with electro-optical sensing, semiconductor technologies, imaging systems, or electro-optical components is desirable.
- Team Development: Demonstrated leadership in building, developing, and managing high-performing teams with an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Customer Engagement: Experience in managing relationships with multiple, sometimes competing, customers across various industries.
- Product Development & Manufacturing Expertise: Knowledge of supporting complex product development and manufacturing processes.
- Project Management: Experience in managing complex projects beneficial.
- Government Contracting: Experience executing government sub-contracting processes as a supplier to prime government contractors preferred.
- Travel: Up to 50% domestic and international travel required.
