Postdoctoral fellowship at the Centre for Precision Psychiatry
The Centre for Precision Psychiatry, Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo, invites applications for a 3-year postdoctoral fellowship. The position is part of the NeuroMent project funded by Helse-Sør Øst, which aims to dissect the shared molecular genetic basis of neurological and psychiatric disorders and translate this information into clinically actionable tools for personalized risk assessment.
About the Centre
The Centre runs a series of multidisciplinary studies involving hospital departments in Oslo and several research groups at the University of Oslo. The main goal is to develop tools and knowledge for precision medicine in psychiatry, building on advanced statistical methods for analysis of large-scale human genetic and neuroimaging data, to better understand how biological, psychological, and environmental factors contribute to severe mental and neuropsychiatric disorders, their treatment, and outcomes. The Centre has access to a large database of biomarkers, clinical, and cognitive variables, genotypes and sequencing data, and brain MRI data on populations (UK Biobank, ABCD) and patients with neuropsychiatric and severe mental disorders. In addition, we work closely with national population cohorts (MoBa, HUSK, HUNT, TromsøStudy), and collaborate with Nordic partners to leverage the registry and biobank information across countries, as well as large international consortia, including the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium (PGC) and the ENIGMA consortium.

Duties and responsibilities:
In the NeuroMent project, we will map the shared genetic influences of neurological and psychiatric disorders with mental and brain-related traits using large-scale GWAS summary statistics (> 1 million cases). Second, we will identify shared biological associations between comorbid neurological and psychiatric disorders using novel biostatistical tools applied to GWAS summary datasets, as well as transcriptomic and proteomics datasets. Finally, we will improve prediction of comorbid neurological and psychiatric illness using genetic risk assessment. We will test and train univariate and multivariate PRS tools using individual-level data from large-scale international and Norwegian population cohorts and validate them in our in-house clinical cohorts.
The overall goal of the study is to advance our understanding of the shared etiology of neurological and psychiatric disorders, which may inform the clinical approach to these disorders. The successful candidate will analyze and publish already collected clinical, genetic, transcriptomic, proteomics and MRI data and contribute to the ongoing data collection.
Qualifications:

The applicant must hold a PhD degree in genetics, medicine, neuroscience or equivalent.
- Documented experience in statistical analysis of human genotype-phenotype data.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to details.
- Fluent in written and oral English.
Personal skills will be emphasized. Especially, the candidate should be able to work independently and interactively in a team setting, be motivated and responsible, and also have a great work capacity and enthusiasm for research.
