Senior Researcher Analytics and Artificial Intelligence
We are looking for a Senior Researcher to join us in creating "Technology for a better society".
Together with our industry partners, we deliver applied research to uncover new knowledge and solutions that contribute to sustainable value creation, improved resource utilization and new market opportunities.
The Analytics and AI group is currently counting 11 researchers and 2 PhD students. We do research and development of methods for application of AI and machine learning in industrial systems. In particular, we specialise in:
Hybrid AI: The combination of machine learning and other system information, such as mathematical models.
The combination of machine learning and optimization/planning, including reinforcement learning and model predictive control.
Industrial application of machine learning. Some examples of applications are the development of automated warehouse robots, decision support in wastewater treatment, hybrid models of wind turbines, and improved coordination of road construction machinery
We’re now looking to expand the group with a Senior Researcher with experience in control theory, machine learning and software development in teams. Experience in project management and development will be a strong advantage.
As a researcher in our group, you will join a dynamic team of talented and creative colleagues with a passion for technology. We actively collaborate with both academic environments and industrial end users. The group has a central role in two of the new Norwegian flagship research centers: Norwegian Center on AI for Decisions, and Trust .
Your responsibilities
At SINTEF, you will be part of a leading research environment on industrially applied machine learning and work together with both small and large Norwegian companies. You will have the opportunity to make a real impact by researching and deploying the latest in learning-based control engineering, as well as contributing to publications in leading conferences and journals.
You have a solid understanding of core concepts in machine learning, keep up to date with state-of-the-art, and you are excited about innovative ways to apply them in the real world. You are expected to participate in all stages of projects, from idea and funding application to results and documentation. An important part of the role will be developing new projects in close collaboration with partners, and supervision of junior researchers in existing projects. You will be expected to follow SINTEFs project management training and take responsibility for some of the group’s projects.
Who are you?
You hold a PhD in cybernetics, control engineering, robotics, computer science, statistics, or equivalent academic qualifications.
You have experience working with client-based projects and are comfortable with project management, planning, coordination and meeting deadlines. You have experience with software development and deployment of machine learning techniques such as reinforcement learning, model predictive control, deep neural networks, probabilistic machine learning, time-series analysis, etc.
You are confident in programming, preferably in Python, and familiar with machine learning and data science frameworks like PyTorch, JAX, Hydra, MLflow, and pandas or similar alternatives.
Experience from industry is a plus, especially process industry or energy sector is of relevance.
