You will be working with the ReVolt platform, consisting of a 1:20 scale model of the ReVolt in addition to a digital twin of the physical scale model. ReVolt is an unmanned and zero-emission ship concept designed for short sea shipping along the coast of Norway. The ReVolt was designed for low energy consumption and the propulsion system is fully electric.
Today, the scale model of the ReVolt vessel includes sensors for estimating own position and motion in addition to LIDAR, 360 Camera and a radar for observing the area around ReVolt. ReVolt is equipped a 5G router, and a sim card for transmitting data and commands between ReVolt and a remote control station. A connection to cloud storage and computing in Microsoft Azure is also established.
The digital twin, a virtual model, of the ReVolt scale model was developed to test and explore new control algorithms on the digital twin before integrating this control system on the physical model of ReVolt
The summer students will mainly work on the physical ReVolt model, doing maintenance. implementing new features such as new collision avoidance algorithms and working on the digital twin for incorporating sensor simulations using Gemini etc. They will also be working on the Simulation Trust Center (STC) to integrate the ReVolt digital twin on this platform.
