At Six Robotics, we build intelligent software that gives Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) the ability to collaborate, adapt on the fly, and execute missions that were previously impossible. From our base in Oslo, our 40+ experts in defence, software, and AI develop Valkyrie, our flagship autonomy and swarm platform used by both government and industry. In close partnership with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), we move fast from concept to live deployment, often in the field alongside end users.
We work with advanced hardware and software, a modern tech stack, and missions that demand both technical mastery and operational discipline. Everyone is close to the action, from deep technical problem-solving to field operations. We move fast and value clarity, integrity, and teamwork in everything we do.
At Six Robotics, every person executes with precision, adapts to changing conditions, and strengthens the team. We only hire the best. Getting in is hard, and you’ll be challenged every day. But if you have the skill, the discipline, and the drive to push your limits, you’ll find no better place to deliver real-world impact while collaborating and learning from the best in the field.
About the Role
We’re about to onboard our very first customers, a huge milestone for us, and we need someone who can take full ownership of making that a success.
As our first Field Application Engineer, you’ll be the technical bridge between customers and our product/engineering teams. You’ll lead integrations, run field and acceptance tests, troubleshoot issues across hardware and software, and make sure operators get the training and tools they need to succeed. This is a hands-on role where you’ll work directly with advanced systems in the field, ensuring our technology performs when it matters most.
Your mission is clear: make every customer integration a success, build the processes and documentation that will scale to future projects, and help shape how Six Robotics delivers in the field. Joining us now means joining a fast-growing, ambitious start-up at the beginning of its journey, where your impact will be felt immediately, and where you’ll help shape not just the role, but also how we grow as a company.
What You Will Do
- Own customer integrations: take part in technical pre-sales, lead onboarding, capture requirements, and ensure our swarm software is seamlessly integrated and fully operational.
- Turn needs into plans: create integration steps, checklists, and test procedures that guide both customers and our teams.
- Run field tests: plan and execute acceptance tests and trials, analyze telemetry, and feed results back into product improvements.
- Troubleshoot issues: diagnose problems across hardware, firmware, networking, and software, and drive them to resolution.
- Document and scale: write playbooks, runbooks, and reference materials to support customers and future field engineers.
- Be the technical face in the field: deliver demos, training, and ongoing support, building trust with operators and partners.
What We Are Looking For
We’re looking for someone who thrives on juggling many moving parts while keeping a clear overview. In this role, you’ll be the connector between customers, partners, and our own engineering team, so being structured, reliable, and able to coordinate across many actors is essential. You’ll need to be both technically confident and people-oriented: equally comfortable troubleshooting in the field as you are explaining complex issues to operators or aligning with a customer’s project manager. Since this role involves significant travel, both nationally and internationally, you should also enjoy being out in the field and working directly with end users.
Must-haves
- Strong technical foundation: ability to set up networks and troubleshoot complex systems.
- Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and keep track of parallel workstreams in a structured way.
- Clear and confident communicator with customers, operators, and internal teams.
- Hands-on, proactive approach, comfortable rolling up your sleeves in the field.
- Willingness to travel and work on-site with customers.
- Fluent in English, with Norwegian as a big plus. German or French skills are also appreciated.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with drones, defence, or aerospace systems.
- Insight into how military organizations work (roles, processes, and decision-making structures).
- Ability to code.
- Background in computer science, engineering, or military/technical training. Relevant experience can compensate for formal education.
