As a Principal DBA specializing in Azure, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing our cloud-based database environments. You will play a key role in ensuring the performance, availability, and security of mission-critical databases hosted primarily in Azure SQL Database
WHO YOU ARE
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Analyze and resolve database performance issues using DMVs, Extended Events, Query Store, and other diagnostic tools.
- Conduct index tuning, query optimization, and SQL refactoring to improve database efficiency.
- Administer, monitor, and optimize databases hosted in Microsoft Azure.
- Design and implement high-availability and disaster recovery strategies using Azure-native tools.
- Automate regular maintenance tasks, including backups, patching, and performance tuning and stats updates.
- Collaborate with application developers, architects, and cloud engineers to ensure seamless integration and performance.
- Participate in database architecture planning, migrations, and cloud transformation projects.
- Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Write and maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and standards.
- Assist with day-to-day SaaS Operations–related tasks, ensuring efficient support and maintenance of SaaS platforms and services.
- Participate in on-call rotations on 24*7 basic and incident management for critical database issues.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with at least 3 years in Azure environments.
- Strong knowledge of Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs and Elastic pool configurations.
- Strong performance tuning skills: indexing, execution plans, wait statistics, etc.
- Azure Synapse analytics and Azure data factory knowledge also required.
- Experience with performance tuning, high-availability configurations, and disaster recovery.
- Proficiency in T-SQL, PowerShell, and scripting for automation and task orchestration.
- Familiarity with Azure tools: Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Automation, and Azure Security Center.
- Experience with multi-tenant Saas products.
- Microsoft certification is a plus (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate).
- Experience in supporting Entity Framework (EF/Core) in .NET applications is a plus.
