This primary focus for this role is advising the business how to operate efficiently and comply with corporate tax, withholding tax and indirect tax requirements. The Tax Business Partner will be the main tax contact for the business for advice on doing business in new countries, the tax treatment of new business models, VAT treatment of cross border transactions (including chain transactions).
The role will include set up of new entities and tax registrations, researching tax rules, using external advisers where required and working with the finance function to ensure that the business transacts as required. Corporate tax compliance is outsourced. The role will include analytical review of corporate tax returns.
Indirect tax compliance is done using compliance/audit software. The role will include the analytical review and submission of VAT returns using the software.
70% indirect tax, 30% direct tax
Key Responsibilities:
First point of contact for tax with the business
Provide indirect tax advice and ensure that the business has a clear understanding of tax costs and compliance requirements
Running global VAT compliance in conjunction with finance function
Assisting with US sales and use tax registration and compliance
Assist with tax authority enquiries
Co-ordinate set up in new countries
Assist with transfer pricing compliance (currently outsourced) and review corporate tax returns (preparation outsourced)
Assist with the ERP implementation from an indirect and direct tax perspective
Seek external advice where required
Agree budget for professional fees and track spend against budget
Maintain tax risk register and respond to auditor questions
Working with Treasury to document intercompany loans and obtain treaty clearances
Withholding tax recovery - obtaining tax residence certificates
Co-ordinating VAT reclaims of travel expenses
Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or Masters in accounting, finance, or related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax and VAT handling
Understanding of the principles of tax
Understanding of international tax and cross border issues
An aptitude for learning is more important than total knowledge coverage
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient in MS Office
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to complete what is started
